Spectra Hostile Area Deployable Environment (SHADE)

SHADE provides a reliable and unique solution to restore voice and data communications where high intensity conflicts, natural disasters, pandemics or terrorist attacks may have destroyed existing networks. SHADE is highly versatile and can support tactical, operational and strategic deployments in extremely challenging environments.  It can also be used to restore communications in the event of a terrorist attack, or as back up at large public events such as the Olympic Games.

SHADE provides a bespoke ‘Unclassified’ wide area network comprising all necessary hardware and software in a wide range of portable, tactical configurations that can be rapidly deployed anywhere in the world. It is scalable to meet every requirement and uses standard off the shelf technology utilising customisable hardware such as ruggedised laptops and IP phones with proven levels of performance and reliability. All equipment is packaged in rugged, portable air-checkable containers.

It delivers voice and data services across a satellite bearer to SHADE Central, a UK Hub that is manned 24/7 to ensure connectivity between the outstations and the terrestrial networks. To ensure 100% redundancy SHADE Central is duplicated at a geographically separated location and circuits can be patched across within minutes.

SHADE is provided as a fully managed service including airtime, manpower and equipment. Shelters, power, lighting, tables and chairs can also be provided as part of this service when required. It completely scalable to meet the specific requirements of individual users and the standard configuration comprises Voice (VoIP) and Data (Internet) enabling the following services to be provided:
